The Bonnie Kate Community Theatre is now accepting auditions for its upcoming summer production of Steel Magnolias by Robert Harling, set to run June 12–14 and June 18–21, 2026, at the historic Bonnie Kate Theater in downtown Elizabethton.
Auditions will be held:
- Monday, April 6 at 7:00 p.m.
- Tuesday, April 7 at 7:00 p.m.
- Callbacks (by invitation): Wednesday, April 8 at 7:00 p.m.
Auditions will take place at the Bonnie Kate Theater and will consist of readings from selected sides of the script. No prepared monologue is required. Sides will be available in advance by contacting director Thomas Townsend at thomastownsend@
The production features an all-female cast of six roles, all of which are open:

Actors of all backgrounds and experience levels, including first-time performers, are encouraged to audition.
Set in a small-town Louisiana beauty salon, Steel Magnolias tells the story of six women whose lives are shaped by humor, friendship, hardship, and resilience. The play is known for blending heartfelt emotion with memorable Southern wit.
“This is a performance-driven ensemble piece where the relationships are everything,” said director Thomas Townsend. “I’m looking for actors who can balance humor with emotional honesty and a strong commitment to the process.”
Rehearsals are tentatively scheduled April 20 through June 11, typically on Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday evenings, along with Saturday early afternoons. Final schedules will be based on cast availability.
